Khairatabad Ganesh stands out in style

150 artists from Chennai working on 59-foot-tall idol, one foot less this year

Hyderabad: The 59-feet Khairatabad Ganesha this year will be in the style of Thrishaktimaya Moksha Ganapathi for the Ganesh Chathurthi that begins on September 17 this year.

The Ganesha will be in a standing position, with goddesses Saraswati and Lakshmi. To the right of the main Ganesh idol will be a depiction of Gajendra Moksham, displaying an elephant and a crocodile and on the left will be Bhadrakali in a sitting position.

The Ganesh Utsav Committee is yet to decide on the weight of the laddu, which can be ordered after the construction of the idol is complete.

Nearly 150 artists were working on different parts of the idol, work began on June 12, Sarvesham Ekadasi.

Mostly the artists are from Chennai and the remaining from Hyderabad. Selection of the design took a month, and was finalised by the committee’s chairman, secretary and the artists. The idol will be immersed in the Hussainsagar on Sunday, September 27.
