INLD demands special Vidhan Sabha session to discuss issue

INLD state chief Ashok Arora and senior party leader Rampal Majra today demanded the state government to call special session of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha to resolve the guest teachers’ issue. They expressed solidarity with the protesting sacked guest teachers.

They also slammed the BJP for not fulfilling its promise of regularising their services.

They INLD leaders were interacting with the media in presence of the protesting guest teachers at the Devi Lal Park here today. They also appealed to the protesters to end their fast, stating there were so many other ways to mount pressure on the government.

“Since the guest teachers’ issue pertains directly to the future of thousands of families across the state, the BJP government should call a special session of the Vidhan Sabha,” said Arora.

He said the state government would not have to face any resistance for a special ordinance, as all opposition parties were in favour of regularisation of the guest teachers.

Taking a dig at Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma for not keeping his word, Majra said the minister had publicly announced to regularise the services of the guest teachers when the latter was on an indefinite fast at Jantar Mantar in Delhi in February last year.

Condition of two more protesters deteriorates

The health of two more protesters— Shamsher Nain and Shashi Bala — who have been fasting for 10 days, worsened today. They were taken to the General Hospital.

Teachers seek nod for euthanasia

Ambala: Guest teachers on Thursday demonstrated in front of local MLA Aseem Goel’s house here, seeking euthanasia. A large number of women guest teachers were also part of the protest. They said they were worried about making ends meet if they lost their jobs. They said the government should adopt their daughters and they be allowed euthanasia. The MLA assured them that the government was serious about their demands. —TNS

In Jhajjar, protesters burn Dhankar’s effigy

Jhajjar: Sacked guest teachers today burnt Agriculture Minister Om Prakash Dhankar’s effigy at Ambedkar Chowk here. They threatened to block highways if their services were not regularised. They gathered at the Shriram Park and raised slogans against the BJP government for terminating their services. “We will not rest till our demand is met,” said Vijay Dhankar, district chief, Guest Teachers’ Association. —TNS
