Doctors at the Community Health Centre (CHC), Kalayat, were found absent during a surprise visit by Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr Ravinder Punia today.

He took the attendance register with him. Some employees reported for duty after learning about the CMO’s visit. It has been learnt Dr Punia warned members of the staff to report for duty in time or else face action.

The CMO said doctors found absent would be served a show-cause notice to explain the reason for not reaching the hospital duty in time. Several patients and their attendants told Dr Punia that doctors did not report for duty in time on several occasions. “Many a time, emergency cases are not attended in time,” claimed one of the patients.

The CMO assured to enforce the duty roaster so that those skipping duty could be identified. “The salary for June will not be released till the duty roaster is enforced. Its copy should be marked to me and another copy should be pasted in the hospital,” Dr Punia added. —OC
