Gujarat CM inaugurates Smart Learning programme for AMC schools

Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel today launched ‘Smart Learning Programme’ for schools that function under Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation(AMC).

Speaking at inaugural function of the project, Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel pointed out that this project has not been outsourced to private party, but it has been created through internal arrangements within AMC.

Under the programme, 56,000 students of standards 6-8 in Municipal schools are to be taught maths and science through TV screen and through practical in classrooms.

The telecast of course will be relayed by Gujarat government run BISAG.

The students will be given worksheets at the end of the lesson. Based on the performance in worksheet, the result of video lesson will be evaluated, and later the video lessons will be improved and amended.

The Chief Minister in her speech pointed out that central government has given 16 channels to Gujarat, of which 10 are allocated to education department by Government of Gujarat while others are allocated for revenue, healthcare, agriculture etc areas.

Chief Minister admitted that there’s shortage of teachers in remote areas due to stay in high court which has affected recruitment of new teachers. She said the Smart learning concept will be useful for such schools where there’s absence of teachers. She said the programme should ultimately reach all schools in remote areas via fiber network.

Presently the lessons under this programmes are available only in two subjects which are maths and science. In reference to this, Chief Minister said in 21st century, knowledge and technology are key areas and therefore education of maths and science is necessary. She said government can not find maths and science teachers because students select arts and commerce in school in large number. To generate interest in maths and science from lower standards itself, the government has stressed on its education through innovative methods.

A presentation in this function made it clear that smart learning programme doesn’t intend to replace existing teaching staff but it aims to empower them with new tools and technology.

Live video of today’s function was telecast in 34,000 schools across Gujarat.
