BAHRAICH: Monsoon has covered the entire Terai region. The levels of Ghaghra and Rapti are constantly increasing. The flood water has entered in houses in low-lying areas in Bahraich, Gonda, Balrampur and Lakhimpur Kheri districts.
Ghaghra has received 1,65,000 cusec water from Banbasa, Sharda and Girjapuri barrages. As the river is nearing danger mark, a spur near Raipur Manjha village has started eroding threatening Charsadi embankment.
Ghaghra Ghat’s Central Water Commission water level measurer Jagdish Prasad said that in the night the river rose at the rate of 2cm per hour and by morning the level had gone up by 18 cms. “The river is flowing at 105.936 metres on Elgin Bridge while the danger mark is 106.07m,” he said and added that the river was expected to rise further.
The rising river has enhanced water pressure on Adampur-Rewali embankment at Jarwal Road. Villagers of Pipri, Kaparwal, Mangarwal, Munsari, Murawwa, Ghoordevi and Baundi are migrating to safer places.
Chaudhary Charan Singh Girjapuri barrage’s assistant engineer SK Verma said that rivers were on the rise owing to heavy rain in Terai belt and hills.
The villagers of Qayampur in Mehsi tehsil of Bahraich too have started migrating to safer places. The level of Sharda in Palia area of Lakhimpur Kheri district is 153.770 metres, 150 centimetres above the danger mark.
The Kodrighat Bridge over river Rapti in Balrampur is also in danger.
The district administration has set up 26 flood check-posts in Nanpara, seven in Kaiserganj and 14 in Mehsi tehsils. Community eateries have also been arranged. As many as 26 flood relief centres have been set up in Nanpara, eight in Kaiserganj and 14 in Mehsi tehsils. In order to rescue the people to safer places, 751 boats have been provided to three tehsils, which includes 114 to Nanpara, 522 to Kaiserganj and 115 to Mehsi. Similarly, 18 motor boats, 29 motorized boats, 69 government boats, 697 private boats and 263 divers have also been kept ready for emergency.
