The confederate flag

When the terrorist Dylan Roof was seen photographed with the confederate battle flag it re opened the debate about the logic behind the state endorsement of this racist relic of the past, in many government buildings in the southern states of America  the confederate battle  flag is hoisted high for all to see and admire.

The ensuing debate centered on removing the flag because of its racist white supremacist past and its affiliation to slavery, for those of you who don’t know the confederate battle flag was the banner for the confederate states which seceded from the union because of their insistence on keeping blacks as property, they fought to preserve the practice of slavery and were willing to die for die for it.

Those in defense of the flag used arguments similar to those used by apologist for colonization when they came in full force to defend monuments to oppression like the Rhodes statue and various other glorification of my ancestors suffering.

Lets get one thing straight, if honoring your heritage means to indorse monuments that are essentially glorifying the enslavement black people than you are part of the problem, the Nazi swastika is banned in most countries and displaying it is considered bad taste, I have yet to hear many Germans say that they deplore Nazi ideology but respect the flying prowess of the Luftwaffe or the bravery and the efficiency of the Weer-mag. Yet people time and time against make great contortions of reason logic and plain decency when they make excuses for the barbarity of the likes of Rhodes, i will  concede that Rhodes foresight and business acumen are to be admired but if u grant him that concession then surely Adolf Hiltler who managed to turn a defunct Germany after the treaty of Versailles into an economic and a military powerhouse surely needs to be admired but of course people who murder white people on mass are reviled throughout history but murder a couple of blacks for diamonds then your legacy remains intact and u are awarded with statues and and street names
