Former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has confirmed that Sergio Ramos is eager to join Manchester United and has asked the club to listen to offers from the Red Devils.

The 20-time English champions have been heavily linked with a move for the defender, with a BBC Sport report suggesting that the club have submitted a bid in the region of £28.6m ($44.6m) to bring Ramos to Old Trafford this summer.

Calderon, who was president of the Spanish capital club from 2006 to 2009, has admitted that the relationship between the club and the player is deteriorating with time, but insisted that the defender will leave Real only to join United and no other club.

"I know Sergio has told the general manager to listen to offers they get from Manchester United. He only wants to go to United," Calderon said, as quoted by BBC Sport.

"Things are in a very bad situation. As time has gone on, things have not only not improved, they have got worse."

"Now it is not a question of money. It is a lack of affection the player is feeling from Real Madrid," the former Real president added.

On the other hand, the 10-time European champions are on the trail of United goalkeeper David de Gea, but, according to the Mirror, the Red Devils are unwilling to part with the Spanish stopper unless Real meet their valuation of the player, despite the former Atletico Madrid goalkeeper having just one year remaining on his current deal.

Both the players are set to return to their respective clubs for pre-season training, with the former Real chief describing the current situation as a 'poker game' with De Gea being the key to any transfer.

"They have contracts so they can't say they won't go, unless they have a good reason, like an injury. It is like a game of poker, with David De Gea in the middle," Calderon concluded.

Meanwhile, according to Spanish radio station Cadena Ser, United have offered Ramos a five-year deal worth €55m (£39m, $60.8m) to move to the Premier League.
