Gauba visits Narwapahar coal mine

State chief secretary, Rajiv Gauba, was in the district for a day to visit Narwapahar Mine facility of Uranium Corporation of India Limited (UCIL) on Tuesday evening.

JAMSHEDPUR: State chief secretary, Rajiv Gauba, was in the district for a day to visit Narwapahar Mine facility of Uranium Corporation of India Limited (UCIL) on Tuesday evening. He was accompanied by district administration officials including DC, Dr Amitabh Kaushal and SSP, Anoop T Mathew, to the public sector enterprise.
The CS was received by CMD UCIL, Diwakar Acharya, and other top officials of the UCIL at the Information Centre at Narwapahar.
Gauba was briefed about all facets of uranium mining and UCIL's role in the nuclear cycle in the two hours he spent at UCIL. He also visited the Narwapahar underground mine to see the mining operations.
"He was taken to a depth of 140 m where he was shown various operations. He spent about an hour underground," said UCIL officials.
Gauba and his wife also visited Sidhu Kanhu Tribal museum located at the centre. UCIL CMD and DC accompanied Gauba and his wife to the underground mine. The CS lauded UCIL's role in fulfilling the country's nuclear program.
After spending over two hours at UCIL, Gauba left for Jamshedpur. "His visit made us happy for we got a chance to brief him about the variety of activities related to the Uranium mining," said top UCIL official on Wednesday.
