A 41-year-old Aurora man was sentenced to 40 years in prison on Wednesday for a 2014 drunken-driving accident that killed a 17-year-old boy.

Ever Olivos-Gutierrez ran a red light and “violently” hit Juan Carlos Dominguez-Palomino’s vehicle at the intersection of East Colfax Avenue and South Dayton Street on March 24, 2014, according to a release from the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

Olivos-Gutierrez told hospital staff and police that he had been drinking since 6 p.m. the previous day and had also consumed cocaine, officials said. Olivos-Gutierrez had a blood- alcohol content of over three times the legal limit at the scene.

Due to prior offenses, Olivos-Gutierrez was required to drive with a court-ordered Interlock system, but the system was not in place.
