6 drug peddlers arrested with codeine, charas

JAMMU, July 1: Sumbal police in Bandipora district of Kashmir today arrested four drug peddlers and recovered 800 bottles of codeine phosphate from their possession.
SSP Bandipora Mohammad Shabir said police parties from Sumbal led by Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) and SHO laid naka at Shilvat in Sumbal and intercepted Alto car No. 3513 JK16 from which four drug peddlers were arrested and 800 bottles of codeine phosphate were recovered from them.
The accused have been identified as Mohammad Ashraf Wani son of Ghulam Nabi R/o Tulmula, Ganderbal, Hilal Ahmad Wani son of Mohammad Sultan R/o Wangipora, Sumbal, Tanvir Ahmad Rather son of Munwar Rather R/o Nesbal, Sumbal and Parvez Ahmad Bhat son of Ali Mohammad Bhat R/o Ghalibabad, Shalteng, Srinagar.
The Alto car in which the accused were travelling has been seized. The accused have been booked under Section 8/21 NDPS Act for further investigation.
The SSP Bandipora said the contraband was being transported from Srinagar to Sumbal for sale among youths.
Meanwhile, Hajin police in Bandipora also arrested two drug peddlers and recovered 1.2 kg charas from their possession.
They have been identified as Irshad Ahmad Parray and Mehraj-ud-Din Parray, both sons of Ghulam Hussain Parray R/o Sumbal.
They have been booked under Section 8/20 NDPS Act at Hajin police station.
