CPI for special council meet on housing issue

July 02, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:01 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

The CPI has asked Mayor Koneru Sridhar to convene a special council meeting to discuss the Kanaka Durga Housing Society issue.

At a press conference on Wednesday, CPI city secretary Donepudi Sankar said the Mayor and his syndicate visited the Kanaka Durga Housing Society Colony in a hush-hush manner. The opposition parties were not invited or informed. It appears the visit was just an eye wash, he said.

The Mayor and his team approved the layout without giving time for the council to discuss the subject. The layout issue was placed before the council at the fag end of the session and was not listed in the agenda. The Mayor should have convened a meeting if he were really sincere in resolving the issue, the CPI leader said. Meanwhile, CPI city unit has demanded that the government scrap the new excise policy.
