The bifurcation of the Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) has been completed with the Nuzvid and Idupalapaya campuses being formally allotted to Andhra Pradesh from Wednesday and the Basar campus to Telangana.
Bringing the formal division of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies into effect, Andhra Pradesh Human Resources Development Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao released the provisional list of short-listed candidates for admission to the six-year integrated B.Tech programme conducted at the Nuzvid and Idupalapaya campuses.
Prof. Raj Reddy will continue as Chancellor for the IIITs in Andhra Pradesh.
Speaking to media persons at Secretariat here on Wednesday, Mr. Srinivasa Rao said about 20,000 candidates had applied for the about 2,000 seats in both campuses, and 2,000 candidates were short-listed on the basis of merit in the tenth class examination.
Counselling for the various streams will start from the third week of July and classes will commence from August 1. While 1,250 seats are available in Nuzvid, the Idupulapaya campus at RK Valley has 755 seats on offer.
The minister said as 198 mandals did not get any representation in the computer-based selection of candidates, 224 supernumerary seats were allotted.
The minister disclosed that the report submitted by a committee on the proposed Private Universities Bill would come up for discussion in the Cabinet meeting on July 4. In Telangana, counselling will be held for IIIT admissions in the Basar campus on July 25 and 26 and for admissions under special categories NCC, sports quota, disabled etc., on July 28 and 29. For seats left vacant in all categories, counselling will be held on July 31.
‘Education cities’
HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao on Wednesday said Amaravathi, Tirupati and Viskhapatnam would be developed as “education cities”. He added that emphasis would be given to innovative mode of teaching on IIIT campuses.
