‘Govt. lacks political will to ensure justice to Dalits’

July 02, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - BELAGAVI:

The Balehosur Dalit Dourjanya Virodhi Okkoota has alleged that the Congress government did not have the political will to ensure justice to Dalits.

Staging a protest near the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha here on Wednesday, the Okkoota members questioned the delay in arresting Sri Dingaleshwar Swami, the main accused in the case related to a group clash at Balehosur village in Shirahatti taluk of Gadag district, in which Mahanthappa Hanumanthappa Gudageri, a Dalit, was killed. They blamed the police for the incident.

The members said a social boycott of sorts had been imposed against members of the Ghantichor community in the village and they were being harassed by the police for opposing the excesses by the seer. They demanded that the government order a judicial inquiry into the group clash and suspend the Deputy Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police of Gadag district.
