Karnataka to obtain TN nod for Mekedatu dam

July 02, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:01 am IST - CHENNAI:

The Karnataka government had clarified that it had no plans to proceed with the construction of Shivasamudram Run of the River Power Project (SRRP) and the Mekedatu project without informing the Supreme Court, Union Minister of Water Resources Uma Bharati said.

In letter to former Union Minister and PMK MP Anbumani Ramadoss, Ms. Bharati had said that her Ministry had examined the matter and the detailed project report (DPR) of SRRP had been returned to the Karnataka government on the ground that the views of basin States, particularly Tamil Nadu and Puducherry should be obtained in the DPR. “In view of the final award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal (CWDT), the views of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry should be obtained and furnished to the Central Water Commission (CWC) to enable the ministry to examine it from inter-state angle,” Ms. Bharti said.
