Tangubai Paranjape is elected panchayat vice-president

Sridevi Subhash Patil was elected president of the Bidar Zilla Panchayat here on Wednesday. Tangubai Manik Paranjape was elected panchayat vice-president.

Ms. Patil was elected from Khatak Chincholi, an unreserved seat, in Bhalki taluk. Ms. Paranjape represents the Ghat Boral (Scheduled Caste) seat in Humnabad taluk. Both belong to the BJP. They will serve a term of six months. The panchayat will go to the polls in January 2016.

Ms. Patil told presspersons that drinking water supply would be given priority. Ms. Paranjape said that she would work with officials to achieve all-round development of rural areas.

The two posts received only one nomination each. Amlan Aditya Biswas, Regional Commissioner and Returning Officer, announced that there was no need for voting and declared the results.
