The French Football Federation (FFF) announced Wednesday to extend contract for two more years with Philippe Bergeroo as coach of the women's soccer national team.

Bergeroo, who just led the women's side to the World Cup quarter-finals in Canada in June, will thus in charge for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and Euro 2017 in the Netherlands.

The 61-year-old, a member of the men's squad that won the Euro 1984 title, met with the FFF president Noel le Graet on Wednesday, having discussed the future and reviewed the World Cup where his side lost to Germany 5-4 on penalty after finishing the semifinals 1-1.

"I am satisfied with the work done by Philippe Bergeroo since I appointed him in August, 2013," said Le Graet. "The team has made rapid progress under his reign and is ranked the third in the FIFA rankings."

"He had also a good result from the World Cup in Canada and took the team qualified for Rio 2016, which was one of our main objectives," added the boss.

"I want to continue to advance with the team and to prepare for the future," commented Bergeroo. "I'm very thankful for the president's confidence on me." Enditem
