Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi is likely to address public meetings at Amreli and Jamnagar, two of the worst-affected districts in the recent rain, in the second week of August.
Party sources here said that Gandhi is being invited in the wake of the flash floods in Amreli and nearby areas that took a heavy toll on human life and huge loss of property, particularly in rural areas.

A delegation of the party leaders led by state party president Bharatsinh Solanki had visited some of the worst-hit areas and found considerable anger among the people against the state government which had not been able to handle the situation effectively and provide help to the people.
The Congress, later on, also demanded raise in the compensation to the victims of the flood as the old rates of compensation had become irrelevant owing to sharp rise in prices in recent years. This, according to sources, is the right time to invite Gandhi because the local body elections in several municipal corporations and zilla panchayats are scheduled for October this year.
