Anoushka Shankar announces new album release
Prolific sitarist Anoushka Shankar has announced the release of her latest album, “Home”, in the coming week. In a post on Facebook, the daughter of sitar virtuoso Pandit Ravi Shankar made the announcement, saying she “very proud of this classical raga recording and I can't wait for you to hear it.”
The album, releasing under the German label Deutsche Grammophon internationally on July 10, contains three tracks on Raga Jogeshwari – one is the alaap, the next is a jod and jhala and the third is a gat in rupak taal, and a track on Raga Manj Khamaj –a raga her father had played at his famous performance at the Woodstock
Festival in 1969. Her accompanists on the tracks are Pandit Tanmay Bose on the tabla and guitarist Kenji Ota.
“Home” will be Anoushka's eighth studio album, which have been a mix of classical, fusion and experimental styles. She has toured all over the world and has fans spanning across genres. Her previous album, “Traces of You” (2013) was a tribute to her father, alongside her half-sister, Norah Jones – and earned her a fourth Grammy nomination, in the Best World Music category.
