Caught off guard: Rangers’ firefight with outlaws leaves four dead

SUKKUR: The death toll in an encounter between Rangers personnel and outlaws has gone up to four, as a Ranger, Mushtaq Ahmed, who was referred to CMH Pano Aqil last night, succumbed to his injuries.

The encounter between the Rangers and the outlaws took place in Garhi Yasin on Tuesday night, in which a Rangers deputy superintendent, an outlaw and a passerby were killed and two Rangers personnel were injured, out of which one died in CMH Pano Aqil.

On Tuesday night, the Shikarpur Rangers incharge deputy superintendent Abdul Jabbar Abbasi and some Rangers personnel were on the way to Shikarpur, a couple of metres away from the Garhi Yasin police station, when a group of armed outlaws on three motorcycles opened fire at them. Resultantly, Abbasi was killed on the spot, and officers Mushtaq Ahmed and Azmat Ali were injured.

A heavy contingent of Rangers personnel and police rushed to the scene and retaliated, due to which one of the outlaws, Shaban alias Tharo Marfani, and a passerby, Abdul Qadeer Mahar, were killed. The dead and the injured were shifted to Civil hospital, Shikarpur.

Following this incident, law enforcement officials conducted a search operation in the Salaro and Miro villages, but no arrest was made.
