Private Equity deals jump 22% between April-June: VCC Edge

MUMBAI: Whether or not Narendra Modi's attempts to boost the domestic economy are working may be a topic of debate, but private equity investors have definitely bought the India growth story. Private Equity investors invested Rs 20,729 crore between April-June in Indian companies this registering a 22% jump compared to the same period last year according to a VCC Edge data.
The number of deals also went up between April and June this year compared to last year. The number of deals jumped by 29% to 262 this year compared to 203 deals last year. Industry trackers say that many private equity players are pumping the money as the start-up sector in the country has become attractive, especially in the e-commerce and the IT and pharma space.

While the number of deals have gone up the average size of the deals went down according to the data. The average size of the deal was about Rs 83 crore which has come down to Rs 76 crore.

The total deals however saw bit of a slowdown compared the last six months. Between October and December lat year private equity investors pumped in Rs 24,950 crore in India while between January and March this year Rs 28,490 crore were invested in India by the PE investors. Industry trackers say that the investors are still bullish about India and the coming months would see the deals in the country increasing.
