Kenny McLean has been passed fit to play in Aberdeen's Europa League qualifying tie with KF Shkendija in Macedonia on Thursday.

The midfielder suffered a knock in last week’s 8-2 pre-season friendly win over Scottish League One side Brechin City at Glebe Park.

He consequently missed the 1-0 weekend win against St Johnstone but has travelled to Skopje for the game at the 2017 European Super Cup final venue, the Philip II Arena.

McLean, signed from St Mirren in January, is in contention to play along with summer recruits Graeme Shinnie, Joe Nuttall, Paul Quinn and Danny Ward.

Manager Derek McInnes helped Aberdeen to their highest league finish in 21 years last season as they were runners-up to Celtic in the SPFL Premiership.

Despite that and a League Cup win in 2014, he is adamant his players must prove themselves all over again to meet the high demands of their passionate support.

McInnes said: "It's part of the attraction of being manager of the club. We know what the club can be. The club has had good moments. We just want to put our mark on it while we’re working here.

"We are fortunate to be working for a club where the demand is to do well. It's expected. We can look forward to the campaign ahead with confidence but there are always challenges ahead of us.

"While I'm confident with the squad we've got, and I'm confident that we've improved the squad, we've still got it all to prove.

"Aberdeen has had more history than a lot of clubs. Hopefully, we can create our own history going forward."
