Nishikant Kamat has successfully managed to juggle between Marathi, Tamil and Bollywood films but the filmmaker says he most enjoys making regional cinema as it gives him a chance to experiment with content and cast.
Kamat, who has helmed movies like Dombivali Fast, Lai Bhaari (Marathi), Evano Oruvan (Tamil) alongside Bollywood projects like Mumbai Meri Jaan and Force, said when it comes to mainstream Hindi films he has to follow a set of rules as a lot is at stake.

"In regional films, I can experiment, take newcomers, take risk with the story. But when I am doing mainstream where lots of money is involved, I have to take bigger stars, have a set up and many things are at stake. Whenever, I want to experiment I can go to the regional format," Kamat told .
However, the director said he enjoys making films, irrespective of languages and is glad that the audience has accepted him.

"Making a movie in any language depends on my mood. I never give too much thought to it. For me, cinema is important not the language. God has been kind that in all three languages I have been accepted as a director," he said.
Kamat is gearing up for the release of his upcoming Bollywood film
Drishyam, which is a remake of the Malayalam movie of the same name.

The film stars Ajay Devgn, Shriya Saran and Tabu in the lead roles and will hit theatres on July 31.
"We were supposed to start shooting Drishyam now. But Ajay's Shivay got postponed till November so he called me and asked whether I wanted to do the film. We started shooting on March 13 and finished on May 18. It was a marathon. I have never shot a film so fast in my life," the director said.

After Drishyam, Kamat has back-to-back releases, which include John Abraham-starrer Rocky Handsome, releasing in October and 2016 January release Madari with Irrfan.
The director said it all happened by chance and he will never sign up for such close releases.

"I will never again do something like this. I shot all the three films separately. Rocky Handsome is an out-and-out action movie but of a different form. So, I gave it a try. It is radically different from Drishyam.
"Then I have Madari, which is almost song-less, very performance-oriented, story of a common man and his fight against the system. It is a bouquet of different films. I am enjoying my stint as a filmmaker rather than worrying about what people think," he said.
