ALLAHABAD: A former office-bearer of the Samajwadi Party (SP) has been booked in adjoining Kaushambi district for allegedly passing derogatory remarks against Priyanka Vadra at a press conference held on June 21.
President of the Kaushambi Congress Committee Talat Azeem on Tuesday lodged an FIR against former SP functionary Azmal with Manjhanpur police station in Kaushambi, alleging that he had passed "highly objectionable" remarks against Priyanka.

The FIR has been lodged under sections 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of IPC.
Manjhanpur deputy SP Purnendu Singh confirmed that an FIR has been lodged against Azmal on the charges of passing objectionable remark against Priyanka. "The crime branch of Kaushambi police has been entrusted with the probe into the matter," he added.
General secretary of Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee and in-charge of Kaushambi district Mukund Tiwari told TOI: "A delegation of Congress leaders had met with Kaushambi additional SP O P Pandey on Monday, demanding that a case be lodged against Azmal on charges of passing lewd and derogatory remarks against Priyanka Vadra."
He said that Azmal, a former member of the state working committee of the Samajwadi Party, was recently booked under section 376 (rape), 364 (kidnapping) and 342 (assault) of IPC with Saini police station of Kaushambi district after a woman accused him of kidnapping, raping and thrashing her on the pretext of arranging a job for her in Allahabad.
After the rape case was registered, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) activists too staged a series of demonstrations asking the police to ensure his arrest at the earliest. However, Kaushambi police has not taken any action till date.
Tiwari said that on June 21, the accused had called a press conference to present his view in the rape case before the media and had passed lewd and derogatory remarks against Priyanka.
