Boy dies in house collapse, 5 injured

KANPUR: A nine-year-old boy was crushed to death and his parents and three siblings sustained injuries when the dilapidated roof of their house collapsed during heavy rain in Bhikar village in Shivli area of Kanpur Dehat on Tuesday morning.
The tragedy struck while they were sleeping in their thatch mud accommodation. "A major portion of the roof came down, killing Ram Kishore's son Abhishek.Ram Kishore (42), his wife Rama (40), son Manish (11) and daughters Chandni (13) and Ruby (10) have been admitted at the district hospital," ASP Rishi Pal Singh.
Hearing a loud thud and shrieks of the victims, the neighbours rushed to the spot and started the rescue operation.
Naib-tehsildar Hemant Kumar said that a report of the incident would be sent to the district magistrate for release of compensation. "The wooden logs fitted in the roof of the house had weakened over the years, which led to the tragedy," a police official said.
