Paolo Nutini and Imelda May set to rock Marlay Park this summer

The Scottish singer will perform an outdoor show in Marlay Park on Saturday, July 4 and will be accompanied by a 10-piece band.

The 28-year-old performed sold out shows at the 3Arena last November. He also released his platinum-selling third album Caustic Love last year, which went straight in at number one in Ireland.

Nutini's connection with Ireland goes beyond the various concerts he's performed here, as he was briefly linked with former MTV presenter Laura Whitmore.

The pair were reported to have been dating for several months and accompanied one another to the Brit awards after-party last year. However, neither confirmed the relationship at the time.

Joining the New Shoes singer on the night will be Dublin's Imelda May.

The Liberties star's latest album Tribal topped the charts on release last year, cementing her status as Ireland's reigning queen of rockabilly.

It is the first in a series of summer dates for Imelda, who joins fellow Dubs The Script, Kodaline and Hozier at the high-profile V Festival in the UK in August.

Imelda first made it into the charts in her 30s, but the mum of one recently admitted she was just about getting by before she became a big name.

"I don't really remember any times that I wasn't on the breadline," she said.

"It was tough. I was in my 30s before I started to do well - I'd been doing it since I was 16.

"I remember once I was down to my last tin in the press.

"It was a tin of Ambrosia and I was thinking, 'God, I have to do something about this'."

Marlay Park is gearing up to be a hotbed of top music talent over the summer break.

Alabama Shakes and Supergrass frontman Gaz Coombes complete the line-up in the July gig.

It comes days before the big music festival Longitude kicks off at the outdoors venue with headliners Hozier, Alt J and Chemical Brothers from July 15 to 17.

Last year, the south Dublin park saw US rockers Kings of Leon and hip-hop star Kanye West appear on stage in Rathfarnham.

Before the Nutini gig, Swedish dance DJ Avicii will warm up Marlay Park on July 3.
