Estonia Retail Sales Growth Improves In May

Estonia's retail sales growth accelerated in May after easing in the previous month, figures from Statistics Estonia showed Wednesday.

The volume of retail sales excluding vehicles increased 8.0 percent year-over-year in May, faster than April's 6.0 percent rise. In March, sales had risen 8.0 percent. Retail sales have been increasing since February 2011.

Sales of manufactured goods surged 18 percent in May from the previous year and sales in grocery stores rose by 1.0 percent.

The retail sales of automotive fuel alone advanced by 4.0 percent in May.

On a monthly basis, retail sales increased 7.0 percent in May following a 2 percent rise in the previous month. On a seasonally and working-day-adjusted basis, sales rose 1 percent.

In the January to May period, retail sales grew 8 percent compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
