3006 survey for railway projects in Mumbai suburbs
Commuters from the extended suburbs of Diva, Thakurli and Kalyan can expect better connectivity in the coming days as the Union railway minister has asked his officials to look into expediting railway projects in these areas.
State government representatives and railway officials along with Thane guardian minister Eknath Shinde, MP Shrikant Shinde will undertake a joint survey on Wednesday to tackle pending issues like halting fast trains at Diva and also for development of the Kalyan-Dombivli road link.

Several rail transport projects in the areas beyond Thane have been requiring attention by railway authorities who have been long neglecting the same. Projects like halting fast trains at Diva, clearing of railway land for connecting the road link between Kalyan and Dombivli require immediate attention from the railways.
Member of Parliament from Kalyan, Dr Shrikant Shinde, recently approached Suresh Prabhu, Union railway minister during his visit to Mumbai and reminded that several projects remained unattended by the railway seniors. Prabhu during his visit to Thane had made several promises about improving the suburban railway services but hardly any materialized leading commuters to question the local leaders.
Following this, Prabhu was apprised of the rising anger among commuters who then instructed the Central Railway senior officials to follow up with the pending projects on Wednesday, July 1 and report him with the developments for improving services at Diva.
A ground survey of the yard at Diva to work out a solution for making arrangements for halting fast trains here along with other facilities is to be worked out. The KDMC is also working on connecting Kalyan and Dombivli with a road link but the same has been held up because of a patch of land that belongs to the railways at Thakurli. The land parcel is of no use for the railways but could be of great use of the same is handed over to the KDMC for the road link.
“We want to ensure that proper transportation network- both rod and rail- is established for residents of the extended suburbs. Halting fast trains at Diva and completing the Kalyan-Dombivli road link are very important projects for the suburbs and need fast approvals. We are confident that the railway minister will look into expediting the works,” said Dr Shinde.
