Police probe Assam youth’s D-company ‘connection’

Guwahati: The Assam Police, along with their counterparts in Lucknow, are trying to find out if there is any link between a youth from Assam’s Darrang district and underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. The youth, identified as Ayub Ali, was recently arrested with 4.6 kg heroin in the Uttar Pradesh capital.
State police have engaged a special team to verify the findings of Lucknow Police. “The Lucknow Police have asked us to look into the matter and we are working on it,” police sources said here.
Ayub hails from the Burichouka area of Sipajhar in Darrang district. He was arrested earlier on murder charges and came out of jail in 2001.
Sources added that Ayub went to Lucknow around three months ago. Ali’s family members, however, denied the charges and said he went to Lucknow for medical reasons. “Ali told us he is going to Lucknow with some other people for treatment. He does not have any links with the underworld,” claimed a relative.
