Vigilance rejects Meena’s SHO pick
NEW DELHI: After two unit chiefs, the anti-corruption branch now has two SHOs. The Delhi government has declared the appointment of the new SHO as void. This comes a day after the high court refused to accept the government’s plea to oust M K Meena from ACB.
The vigilance department on Tuesday cancelled three of the orders passed by the ACB chief, Meena, on Monday.
One of them is the appointment of the new SHO. Arguing that ACB was a part of the department of vigilance and any work allocation can happen only with the approval of the head of the department, director of vigilance, Sukesh Jain, termed the orders as those “without authority”.
“Vinay Malik will continue to work as the SHO of ACB,” the vigilance order further reads. This order, officials said, will only add to the confusion as the new SHO, Brij Mohan, already took charge from Malik on Monday and has discharged his duty through Tuesday. It is unclear as to how Malik will be reinstated, if at all.
The DoV gives reference to the allocation of business rules 1993 in his order. Jain also uses strong words against Meena and advises him to refrain from passing such “unauthorized orders” in future. The current order is likely to have repercussions as Meena has earlier warned the director of vigilance not to interfere in the matters of ACB, which is a police station.
It will be interesting to see how Meena and the lieutenant governor react to the order, a source said.
