Export awareness prog for rice mill traders, entrepreneurs held

JAMMU, June 30: An export awareness programme for the Rice Mills Clusters in different parts of Jammu was organized by the Regional Authority, Joint Director General of Foreign Trade under its Niryat Bandhu Scheme, here which was attended by rice mill traders and entrepreneurs.
The programme was organized under the chairmanship of Ramesh Verma, ITS, Asstt Director General of Foreign Trade and Augustus presence of UK Vats, Deputy General Manager, APEDA, New Delhi, Dr Ritesh Sharma, Senior Scientist, BEDF and Virender Kumar, Product Sales Manager, Trade and Forex, Kotak Mahindra Bank.
Ramesh Verma apprised the audience with export procedure and policy, 2015-20 with special emphasis on Jammu region. He added this is high time that the local rice produce should take a step forward in International Market.
He encouraged the participants to think and act out of the box and look forward and adapt to export oriented vision and act accordingly.  Making ‘Brand India’ for Basmati Rice was the major motto suggested by Verma.
UK Vats from APEDA said that Jammu region has golden opportunity to export rice to neighbouring countries like Nepal.  He explained the support extended by APEDA through its four components to the firms registered with them in general and the rice producers in particular.
He added that under the 12th Plan Scheme, the rice producers could take benefit of irrigation facility, individual laboratory and modern packaging at subsidized rates.
The facilities extended by Basmati Export Development Foundation (BEDF) were well explained by Dr Ritesh Sharma with special reference to DNA testing and facilities like pesticide residue, heavy metals and GMO which have been started this year.
Virender Kumar from Kodak Bank Limited explained the financial aspect covered specially for exports. He explained the benefits of EEFC account.
Joint DGFT, Jammu expressed its gratitude to President of Rice Mills Association, Ram Singh and General Secretary, Sandeep Kapoor for their co-operation & laid stress on getting the association registered.
In the end, Chaman Lal, Foreign Trade Development Officer presented vote of thanks, while Aruna Narula and Anil Sawhney, as members of Business Excellence Support Team (BEST) under Niryat Bandhu Scheme coordinated the programme.
