The Rock 'n' Roll Arizona Marathon & 1/2 Marathon is seeking a new title sponsor to replace P.F. Chang's

The Rock 'n' Roll Arizona Marathon & 1/2 Marathon is searching for a new title sponsor, just the second in its 13-year history.

P.F. Chang's is exiting as title sponsor, a role it held since the event's inception in 2004. Bert Vivian, former P.F. Chang's co-CEO, was instrumental in the company's RnRAz involvement. Vivian retired in 2012. The branding was so successful that it often is referred to as P.F. Chang's by participants.

"P.F. Chang's has been a great partner," Competitor Group spokesman Dan Cruz said. "While they have decided to pursue new opportunities, this has been a textbook sports marketing partnership with a brand not historically associated with running that has been extremely successful in reaching an affluent demographic.

"Our team has already been in conversation with a number of local companies who have significant interest in one of the Valley's top sports and entertainment properties."

RnRAz, with more than 20,000 entrants annually, is the first event each year in the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon series covering more than 30 cities in the United States and overseas. San Diego-based Competitor Group manages the series.

The 13th RnRAz is Jan. 16-17 in Phoenix, Scottsdale and Tempe. It now includes a 5K, 10K and Kids Rock. The marathon and 1/2 marathon are on the final qualifying day for the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials, which is on Feb. 13 in Los Angeles.

Competitor Group announced Tuesday Humana Inc. as a series-wide partner and title sponsor of RnR races in Chicago, Virginia Beach, San Antonio and New Orleans. Humana also will host free 5K tune-up races in Atlanta, Knoxville, Tenn., Richmond, Va., and Baton Rouge, La.
