Shilpa Udayshankar, daughter-in law of the former Inspector-General of Police B.G. Kokatnur, reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her residence in Dharwad on Tuesday.

Shilpa (36) was married to Uday six years ago and the couple did not have a child.

According to sources, there were differences between the couple, which led to a quarrel a few months ago. It was reportedly resolved following the intervention of the elders of the family.

Case registered

Police Commissioner Ravindra Prasad told The Hindu that Shilpa had hanged herself.

He said that they had found a death note in which she had held her father-in-law and mother-in-law responsible for her death.

Mr. Prasad said that the Dharwad Suburban Police had registered a case under Section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code and intimated the Dharwad taluk magistrate for an inquest.

He said that the death note by the deceased had been seized by the Dharwad tahsildar and based on the inquest report, further steps would be taken.
