The District Collector, K. Vivekanandan, on Tuesday warned teachers of stern action against them if they committed sexual offences. Certificates of those who found guilty during departmental inquiry will be cancelled besides initiating other criminal proceedings, he added citing the Government Order 121.

Cancellation of certificates were never done so far, he told a review meeting of school heads recently.

Action will be taken against teachers who do not report incidents of sexual abuse to higher ups, he said. Cases would be registered against them too.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Kalyan explained the provisions of Pocso Act. The burden of proving innocence was with the accused under the Act. A short animation film on “Good touch and bad touch,” and the right of the child to say “no” to sexual abuse, and the “safety circle” of a child was screened.

The film will be screened in all schools.
