Aljaz Bedene, James Ward and Heather Watson have all joined Andy Murray in the second round at Wimbledon.

British no. 2 Bedene defeated Radek Stepanek of Czech Republic 7-5 1-6 4-6 6-3 6-4 in his first match at SW19 since switching nationality from Slovenia earlier this year.

Ward meanwhile beat Luca Vanni of Italy 6-7 (4-7) 6-2 6-4 6-3, meaning Great Britain now have four men through to the second round.

Andy Murray eased past Mikhail Kukushkin with a 6-4 7-6 (7-3) 6-4 victory on Centre Court with Liam Broady also safely through after shocking Marinko Matosevic on Monday.

Watson meanwhile was last on court on Monday but ended the day level with Caroline Garcia at 1-6 6-3 before light stopped play.

But the British number one recovered three match points to snatch a hard-fought 8-6 win in the deciding set.

Laura Robson however suffered an early exit in her first Grand Slam match in 17 months, losing 6-4 6-4 to Russia's Evgeniya Rodina.

British wildcards Kyle Edmund and Brydan Klein were also eliminated at the first hurdle after defeats to Alexandr Dolgopolov and Andreas Seppi respectively.

The biggest shock of the day came on Court One as 2014 runner up Eugenie Bouchard was beaten 7-6 (7-3) 6-4 by qualifier Ying-Ying Duan of China.

Third seed Simona Halep also suffered a shock elimination after defeat to Jana Cepelova, ranked outside the top 100.
