Swift takes space at Enfield Intermodal

Swift Transport will take up tenancy at the new Intermodal Logistics Centre (ILC) at Enfield, NSW Ports announced yesterday.

Developed by NSW Ports, the purpose-built office, warehouse and hardstand facility will total over 20,000 sq metres.

NSW Ports chief executive officer Stephen Cleary said the Enfield facility will deliver growth in container movements by rail.

“We are delighted that Swift has signed on at Enfield and look forward to working with them to grow the container business through the ILC”.

Meanwhile, Amir Elmir, Swift’s owner, commented that: “rail into and out of Port Botany is the long term future for the Sydney basin and Swift is excited about the opportunities that Enfield and rail freight creates for our business”.

The ILC is a 60Ha facility located 18km from Port Botany and connected to the Botany freight rail line.

It comprises an intermodal terminal with two 920-metre rail sidings, empty container storage areas and several industrial lots of varying sizes.

Industrial lots are designed to attract occupants in the logistics, freight forwarding, pack-unpack, import-export, transport, distribution and warehousing sectors, according to NSW Ports.

The ILC is recognised as having a “significant contestable container catchment zone for rail of 700,000 teu, which will grow in the future,” according to the NSW Ports Consortium.

It is located on, and accessible to, arterial roads including the Hume Highway, Roberts Road and the M5 / M4 motorways.

Development of the ILC will also involve building a new bridge over the existing RailCorp Marshalling Yard connecting to Wentworth Street and an area incorporating ecological and heritage features.
