Police Public Mela would be held in Srinagar in the month of September. Arrangements for the day long Mela, were discussed at a senior police officers meeting held at Police Headquarters (PHQ) here today.The meeting was chaired by Additional Director General of Police Headquarters (ADGP), Mr. S. P. Vaid.ADsGP Mr. Navin Aggarwal and Mr. SM Sahai were also present in the meeting. Addressing the meeting, Mr. Vaid said that Police Public Mela is a grand event organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Police Wives Welfare Association (JKPWWA) since years. The event has become popular among the people and they have shown much interest in these Melas both at Srinagar and Jammu. People from all shades of life visit the Melas and avail opportunity of having items of their choices, from all the regions of the State under one roof. The Melas have also brought police and public together to work for peace and prosperity of the State, he added.ADGP said that last year due to heavy floods in the valley, the Mela could not be held and this year the grand event would be organized in Summer Capital in the month of September. He said that all police establishment would take part in the grand event. He asked the officers to start preparations from today and make the arrangements in a befitting manner. He asked the officers that raffle draw tickets should be made available for the people before one month at all the district headquarters and prominent places in Srinagar and Jammu.
During the meeting, threadbare discussions were held with regard to various arrangements to make the event successful. For this purpose various committees headed by senior officers were constituted and asked to start the preparations for the grand event. It was decided that the stall holders of different police establishments across the state would be geared up for their massive participation in the Mela with their products. Sufficient space would be provided to them to establish their stalls for exhibition and sale of products on reasonable rates to the people.During the meeting, enhancement in the Raffle Draw prizes was also discussed and it was decided that some many more attractive prizes would be included in the Raffle Draw this time for the prize winners. Mr. Vaid said that “Bumper prizes have made the event more attractive and people from all corners of the State wait for months to test their luck through raffle draws. Transparency in raffle draw has strengthened the trust of the people upon the organizers.
Vaid said in view of the popularity of the grand event, large participation of the public is expected and asked the organizers to keep available basic facilities for the visitors at the venue. He stressed upon the officers for effective coordination at all levels to make the event a success. He said that committeese said the constituted should start the work by now and the officers assigned with different tasks should be held responsible. He asked the officers heading different arrangement committees to hold meetings and discuss the preparations for smooth conduct of the event. He asked the officers experiences gained buy previous Melas should be utilized and any deficiency noticed should be rectified.Among others, the meeting was attended by IsGP, Dr. B.Srinivas, AK Choudhary, HK Lohia, SJM Gillani, MA Khan, Mukesh Singh, Sunil Kumar, SL Sharma, Jagjit Kumar and MA Ganai, DIsGP, Alok Kumar, SA Mujtaba, GH Bhat and Hilal Ahmed, AIsGP, Sheikh Junaid Mahmood, Rajeshwar Singh, Tahir Sajjad, Sheikh Zulfikar Azad, Senior ADO, BA Shah, SP (South), S Patil, Medical Superintendent, MS Koka and other police officers.
