Rustenburg - A safe with firearms, ammunition and documents, allegedly stolen in Schweizer-Reneke, was recovered in Vryburg, North West police said on Tuesday.

Police spokesperson captain Paul Ramaloko said the safe was recovered on Monday morning.

“This recovery comes after police received a tip-off from the community with regard to a weapon safe and firearms that were dumped in a water ditch at Roydenroad, Vryburg,” he said.

“Upon arrival at the scene, members of the K9 unit found a safe opened, lying in the water ditch. Three firearms, ammunition and documents were found in it.”

He said the police confiscated the items and they were identified as having been stolen during a burglary in Schweizer-Reneke on Saturday.

No arrest had been made and investigations were underway.
