The New York Knicks "want to be in" the mix for free-agent guard Danny Green, league sources say.

Green's interest in the Knicks is unclear at this point.

New York has a void to fill at shooting guard following the trade of Tim Hardaway Jr.

The only Knick guards under contract are Jose Calderon, Langston Galloway and Jerian Grant.

Green is one of several shooting guards in whom the Knicks have expressed interest.

ESPN's Chris Broussard reported that Carmelo Anthony has reached out to free-agent guard Arron Afflalo. Broussard also reports that the Knicks will meet with Wesley Matthews.

Green, who grew up on Long Island, averaged 14.7 points per game and made 41.8 percent of his 3-point attempts last season. The 6-foot-6 Green is also viewed as a strong defender.

It is unclear what kind of contract Green will be looking for this summer. The Knicks will have at least $26 million to spend in free agency.

Green isn't the only New Yorker the Knicks might have interest in when free agency begins on July 1.

According to sources with knowledge of the team's thinking, restricted free agent Tobias Harris is a player who has been "in the conversation" among members of the organization as a possible target.

The Orlando Magic will have the right to match any offer to Harris, and Magic general manager Rob Hennigan has said publicly that he plans to do so.

If the Magic changed their mind and Harris were to end up in New York, the 6-8 small forward could allow Anthony to shift to power forward.

It's worth noting that the Knicks have had more success with Anthony at power forward than at small forward in recent seasons.

Last season, New York outscored opponents by 5.7 points per 48 minutes when Anthony played power forward, per 82games.com. The Knicks were outscored by 7.2 points per 48 minutes with Anthony at small forward in 2014-15.
