: The Kodagu district administration reviewed its monsoon preparations on Monday and the officials were directed to take up relief works on a priority basis to those affected by the recent rainfall.
At a meeting held at Madikeri on Monday, Kodagu Deputy Commissioner Mir Anis Ahmed instructed the officials to expedite the release of funds as there was a loss of life and property in the district during the recent rain. Home Guards, Fire Department personnel should be deployed to Dubare, Bhagamandala and other flood-prone areas to facilitate rescue operation, he said.
‘Use motor boats’
The officials were instructed to make use of motor-boats to rescue people during floods. They were directed to give their requirement for such boats to higher authorities.
Ad hoc arrangements
For the benefit of people living in the low-lying areas along the downstream of the rivers, it was decided to make ad hoc arrangements to house them till the floods came down.
The gruel centres have been directed to become operational.
The PWD and CESC and other departments were directed to coordinate and identify trees, which posed a danger and had to be trimmed or felled to avoid injuries or loss of life.
They were also told to identify schools and classrooms in dilapidated state needing be repaired or strengthened to withstand monsoon fury.
