SRMU stages protest

June 27, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:39 am IST - MADURAI:

Railway employees affiliated to Southern Railway Mazdoor Union (SRMU) staged a demonstration against Dr. Bibek Debroy Committee recommendations.

The protest was presided over by assistant divisional secretary V. Ramkumar.

The agitators were opposed to the recommendation that the number of railway employees should be reduced by more than five lakh.

They were also against its recommendation that entry of private operators was the only viable option for encouraging growth and improving services in the railways.

Integration of all the 125 railway hospitals in the country and merging them with Central Government Health Scheme framework under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare was among other recommendations they were opposed to.
