App for Nellaiyappar temple launched

The Sri Nellaiyappar Kanthimathi Ambal temple, one of the ancient temples in Tirunelveli has launched an app and a quick response (QR) code for its devotees to stay connected with the temple activities.

MADURAI: The Sri Nellaiyappar Kanthimathi Ambal temple, one of the ancient temples in Tirunelveli has launched an app and a quick response (QR) code for its devotees to stay connected with the temple activities.
The temple’s executive officer, N Yagna Narayanan said the 1300-year-old temple has devotees across the globe who likes to know about their festivals.
As they recieved many request, they decided to launch the app to coincide with the temple’s “aani festival” on Monday.
Rajagopal, a software professional and Tirunelveli native designed the application and his parents bore the cost of uploading it on the Google play store. The app is expected to be completed in six weeks.
While other temples like Madurai Meenakshi Amman, Thiruvannamalai and Tirupati have their own apps; the Nellaiyappar temple is the first among them to have a dynamic app and a QR code. The festival videos can also be viewed on the app.
Once the QR code is activated, people can scan the code through their smartphones to get the details of the temple. For instance, the code for the famous “Tirunelveli Pathigam” sung by saint Thirugnanasambandar will be placed near the temple and people can hear the song by scanning the code. When fed with the authentic information, the user will be directed to the app the temple’s website.
