NASHIK: The Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU) will soon start a hospitality in aviation course at MIHAN, Nagpur. It is a first for the university to conduct a course in the field of aviation.
Vice chancellor of the university, Manikrao Salunkhe said, “The university will start two courses: a diploma in aviation hospitality and one in travel tourism management.
The course duration will be one year with two semesters and will be accepting those candidates who have passed their Higher Secondary Examination (HSC) at least and preferably a graduate of any stream.”
Students with a polytechnic diploma qualification from any stream can also apply for the course.
“Another degree course in Bachelor in Business Administration (BBA) in aviation hospitality and travel and tourism management will also be offered to the students. This course will be for a period of three years with six semesters,” Salunkhe said.
The students will be taught aspects of grooming, housekeeping, flight handling, record and store keeping, tour packaging and will get an opportunity to work with hotels and travel companies. They will also have to go through continuous eva uation through presentations, projects and practical training.
Speaking to TOI, Salunkhe said that the course will be conducted in collaboration with Flywill aviation academy at MIHAN in Nagpur. “The academy is already functioning, but the university now has entered into an agreement with the academy where the students will register with the university and join the course,” he said.

The vice chancellor said that the university has drafted the course structure and will soon be provided to the students pursuing the course. The certification or degree awarded to the students will bear the name of the university and the academy.
“The course is being held in Nagpur because of the infrastructural facility already present there. The university is also planning to introduce the course in other cities like Mumbai, Pune, Aurangabad and also in Nashik, once the airport in the city becomes operational with the help of such academies,” he said.
On the subject of what kind of jobs the students will get, Salunkhe said, “The average pay scale in this area is Rs 40-50, 000 per month. After completion, the students can look forward to getting selected in star companies.”
