Floral tributes paid to Professor Mahalanobis

MUSSOORIE: Officials and employees of the District Economic and Statistical Department today paid floral tributes at the portrait of Prof Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis.

Officials and employees of the District Economic and Statistical Department today paid floral tributes at the portrait of Prof Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis.

Mahalanobis is known for his contribution in the field of economic planning and statistical development in the post-independent era at New Tehri.

District Economic and Statistical Officer Virendar Kumar said the Government of India decided to designate June 29 as Statistics Day every year.

The first Statistics Day was celebrated on June 29, 2007. The day is celebrated with an objective to create public awareness among people, especially youth, about the role of statistics in socio-economic planning and policy formulation, said Virendar Kumar.

The gathered audience pledged to take forward the work done by the great statistical officer in the field of economic planning and statistics in the country. Youth welfare officer HS Khatri, Additional Social Welfare Officer and others were present on the occasion.
