Differently abled girl ‘raped’ repeatedly for a month, 1 held

“The victim is a student at a school for the differently-abled. For the last few weeks, her teacher observed that her behaviour was unusual and asked her about it. After some delicate coaxing, the victim told her teacher that she was being sexually abused, and the teacher immediately informed the victim’s parents,” said a senior police officer.

The victim’s parents then took her to the Pant Nagar police station on June 25, where her statement was recorded by a female officer, and an FIR of rape and common intention was registered against three accused named by the victim under the Indian Penal Code.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Vinay Rathod, Zone VII, confirmed that the FIR had been registered, and added that one of the three accused had been arrested on June 26.

“The victim has said in her statement that she was lured to a secluded spot in the colony near a public toilet and was sexually assaulted by the accused, who are all residents of the same locality as the victim. The accused threatened her with dire consequences if she told anyone about the exploitation, and this abuse, according to the victim, lasted from the first week of May to June 23, when she finally confided in her teacher,” said the officer.

The victim has undergone medical tests at the Police Hospital in Nagpada, and the test reports have confirmed sexual assault, said officials.

“The victim does have some limitations in her speech but we were able to record her statement with the help of the teacher who the victim confided in. We have arrested one of the accused, who has been remanded to police custody till July 4, and at least two more are wanted,” said Rathod.
