Jonny Bairstow and Tim Bresnan smashed records as Yorkshire piled up the runs against Durham at Chester-le-Street.
The pair put on 366, breaking the seventh-wicket County Championship partnership record of 344 set in 1902, while both hit best first-class scores.
Bairstow went on to make 219 not out and Bresnan remained unbeaten on 169 before Yorkshire declared on 557-6.
The hosts then fell to 81-5 but Scott Borthwick (35 not out) and Ryan Pringle (34 not out) saw them close on 140-5.
Bairstow and Bresnan, whose stand was worth 138 at the start of day two, smashed Durham's bowlers around the ground as they added another 228 in a little over a session-and-a-half.
Bresnan came to the crease on the first afternoon with Yorkshire struggling on 191-6 and proceeded to hit 27 fours in his 256-ball innings as he surpassed his previous highest score of 126 not out.

England wicketkeeper Bairstow went past the 205 he scored against Notts at Trent Bridge in 2011 in a knock which contained 31 boundaries and one six.
Durham skipper Paul Collingwood, who used nine bowlers to try and get a breakthrough, could only watch on as Bairstow and Bresnan bettered Yorkshire's record seventh-wicket stand of 254, set 96 years ago by Wilfred Rhodes and Cecil Burton, on the stroke of lunch.
The scoring rate only increased after the interval as Bresnan brought up his maiden 150 and Bairstow raced to his double hundred off just 244 balls.
They also helped Yorkshire become the first team in Division One to score 500 in an innings this summer.
With records tumbling throughout the afternoon, the pair just had time to beat the highest stand for any wicket against Durham, 359 by Surrey's Ian Ward and Mark Butcher, before visiting skipper Andrew Gale declared.
While Yorkshire made batting look easy, it was a different story in Durham's reply as they lost five quick wickets including Collingwood and Gordon Muchall without scoring as Steven Patterson took 2-16.
However Borthwick remained solid as he shared a useful partnership of 59 with Pringle in the last hour of play, but Durham still trail by 417.
