Smriti Irani were burnt on Monday in Rander area of the city by members of Youth Congress. Police arrested five Youth
Congress leaders and they were later released on bail. The leaders were protesting over commercialization in education section in Gujarat and alleged bogus degree of the HRD minister.
Effigies prepared with photos of the CM and the HRD minister wrapped in sarees were brought by the Youth Congress leaders in pre announced demonstration at the gate of Navyug College on Rander Road.
Around 40 leaders and members of Youth Congress participated in the protest on road. The members were carrying banners demanding to stop commercialization of education. CM’s effigies were burnt across Gujarat at many locations by Congress and its affiliated groups.
“Effigy of the CM was burnt to protest against the state government’s policies to promote commercialization in education sector in state. The education is becoming costly day by day and it is inaccessible for poor students,” said Bhavesh Rabari, a Youth Congress leader.
“We have submitted memorandums on regular interval to various education department authorities to check commercialization. But nothing has been done in this regard after which Youth Congress was forced to carry out a strong protest,” Rabari added.
Effigy of the HRD minister was burnt demanding her resignation alleging that she possess a bogus educational degree. “Now doubts have been raised about degree of the HRD minister Irani. An appeal has been admitted by court in this regard that means there is some truth in the allegation,” Rabari added.
