Rahane named skipper for Zimbabwe tour; Pujara to lead India A

New Delhi, Jun 29 (UNI) The BCCI selection committee headed by chairman of selectors Sandeep Patil today named Ajinkya Rahane as the captain for the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe comprising three ODIs and two T20 internationals starting July 10. The committee decided to rest senior members of the side including regular ODI skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, Umesh Yadav and Ravichandran Ashwin. While Ravinddra Jadeja was dropped from the team. Veteran off-spinner Harbhajan Singh and top order batsman Robin Uthappa makes a comeback to the One Day Internationals (ODI) side. Batsman Manish Pandey and pacer Sandeep Sharma are the new faces in the relatively new look Team India. Admitting the humiliation at the hands of Bangladesh in the last series, where India lost 1-2, Patil said the new team for the Zimbabwe series has been selected with the upcoming World T20 in India next year. ''Yes we didn't do well in Bangladesh, but considering the amount of cricket the Indian team has been playing we have decided to rest few seniors in the squad. The team for Zimbabwe has been selected keeping in mind the T20 World Cup next year,'' Patil told reporters here today. The selectors also named Cheteshwar Pujara as the skipper of the India A squad for the upcoming tri-series against Australia A and South Africa A, starting July 19 in Chennai and Wayanad.
