56 held raid in anti-hooch raid at 9 spots

The district police on Sunday claimed to have arrested 56 people and destroyed 70 furnaces during an anti-hooch trade raid at nine places.

ALLAHABAD: The district police on Sunday claimed to have arrested 56 people and destroyed 70 furnaces during an anti-hooch trade raid at nine places. Around 770 litres of illicit liquor and 15,300kgs of lahan (raw material) were also seized.
The raids were conducted at Bahmalpur (Tharwai), Sewiat and Malakia (Soraon) , Neewa (Dhoomanganj), Talri and Chilla Kachar (Shivkuti), Kodapur (Saraymamrez), Amarapatti (Phulpur), Khai (Karchana) and Arail (Naini).

Allahabad SSP KS Emmanuel said that four special teams conducted simultaneous raids.
The first team raided Bahmalpur and two other spots and seized 100 litres of hooch and 1,000 Kg Lahan. Fifteen people involved in the trade were also arrested. The second team raided Neewa, Talri and Chilla Kachar and arrested 11 people along with 140litres spurious liquor and 1,800 kg Lahan. Around 20 furnaces were also destroyed.
The third team arrested five people and seized 80 litres of spurious liquor and 2000kg lahan at a crack down in Kodapur and Amarapatti. The fourth team nabbed 25 people and seized 450 litres of hooch along with 10,000 Kg lahan from Khai and Arail areas. Around 25 furnaces were also destroyed.
