BAHRAICH: A murder accused escaped from custody while being taken to court from court lock-up on Saturday.
A case of negligence was registered against the two constables accompanying the accused.
ASP, city, Dinesh Tripathi said that the two cops would be suspended if probe confirms their negligence.
According to reports, Mannu of Chandpura was undergoing trial in a murder case of 2013.
He was brought to court lock up from district jail for hearing in CJM court.
In the afternoon when accompanying constables Siyaram Yadav and Ramakant Singh were taking Mannu to the designated court, the undertrial managed to escape. Though the two constables informed the cops deployed at the court lock up, the incident was kept under wraps for three hours.
After cops failed to trace the undertrial, senior officials informed. ASP (city) and CO (city) Anup Kumar along with city Kotwali incharge Rajendra Verma reached the court premises.
