Brain-dead man gives new life to 3 in Surat

SURAT: Three persons got a new lease of life because of organ transplant done in Surat.
Valsad-based P V Ramakrishna Rao was declared brain dead on June 25 after an accident on June 22 on Valsad-Dharampur Road. Rao was going on his two-wheeler from Abrama when an unidentified four-wheeler hit his vehicle from behind. He suffered severe injuries on head and was treated at Kasturba Hospital initially.Later, he was shifted to Unique Hospital in Surat where neuro surgeon Dr Kirit Shah and neuro physician Dr Haresh Parekh declared him brain dead.
Rao was production supervisor in Tipco Industries in Valsad. He was 46 years old and from Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. He is survived by wife Kanaka Mahalaxmi and sons Avinash (18) and Manoj (17)
Kanaka said, “I will be happy if his organs can give new lease of life to someone.”
Dr Bipin Pal and his team from Institute of Kidney Disease and Research Center (IKDRC), Ahmedabad received the donation of two kidneys and a liver.
Rao’s kidneys were transplanted in 58-year-old Parshottam Patel of Ahmedabad and 22-year-old Narendrasinh Rajput of Bawala. Thirty-four-year-old Mitul Bhupendra Shah of Ahmedabad received the liver transplant.
The organ transplant initiative was taken by Donate Life, a non-government organization (NGO).
